Nicaragua Day 1

Once I arrived in Managua I rushed to my hotel. I signed in and put my bags in my room. Then I went outside and got a taxi to take me to the baseball game. As we were driving down the road I noticed how modern and new all of the buildings looked. A vast majority of Nicaragua’s buildings were destroyed during an earthquake in 1972. Therefore, all of the buildings were rebuilt in a modern style. Once we reached the baseball stadium, I got out and went to buy my ticket. There was a huge crowd. People were all around me, trying to rush inside and watch the game. I bought my ticket and went to the concessions stands to buy a drink and some food. I bought a very popular drink called Flor de CaƱa. It was a type of rum, and it tasted delicious. Then I went to my seat and enjoyed the game. The two teams competed very hard. Finally, Nicaragua pulled ahead, and won. The crowd went wild . Everyone was screaming and celebrating. After the game ended, I decided to walk around the city. I noticed a few hospitals but not many. Poor drinking water and malnutrition are also a problem in Nicaragua. Most of the poor citizens cannot afford very good healthcare. The people that live in rural areas are typically out of luck when it comes to healthcare, because there are few to no options out there. However, the problem is not nearly as bad as it is in Haiti. As I was walking  heard some music coming from a nearby building. I went inside and saw a band playing. One girl was singing, one girl and boy were standing on either side of her playing guitars, and two boys were in the back banging on marimbas with hammers. Marimbas are these strips of wood that are on top of either steel tubes or chutes of bamboo. I stayed and listened to the soft melody of the marimbas and the fast speed of the guitars. When the band was done performing i decided to head to my hotel, to sleep and prepare for my next day.
